OSTEOPOROSIS
Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens the bones and reduces their resistance. Those affected are more likely to have fractures or have changes in bone structure. The skeleton can then be affected, especially the vertebrae, wrists and the femur.

The causes of this disease are various, but it mainly affects women starting at about 50 years of age, or during menopause.

Daily dairy: Consuming milk and yogurt reduce osteoporosis risk.

Vitamin D and calcium deficiency, high consumption of coffee, alcohol and tobacco, late puberty, lack of regular physical activity or certain endocrine diseases such as hyperthyroidism are also risk factors for osteoporosis.
According to Osteoporosis Canada, at least one in three women and one in five men will experience an osteoporotic fracture in their lifetime. Osteoporosis is usually a silent disease, but it causes tens of thousands of fractures, hospitalizations and stays in rehabilitation centers every year. The disease is too often detected late and its consequences are the more dramatic.
